The Process
I sew with velvet, specifically a silk and rayon blend. This sumptuous and irresistible fabric requires unique skills to handle. When the nap is compressed there is reflective change that occurs depending on how the light strikes the velvet. I always begin my designs by making a drawing. I like to draw images from nature, but the motif can be anything that I feel adapts to the design quality and dimension of the scarf. The drawing is then transferred exactly to a block-stamp which has a heat resistant surface. I place the designs, one at a time, onto the smooth surface of the solid color velvet, this is when the lovely tonal color change occurs. With the use of heat, moisture, and careful timing, the block is now utilized to press the designs into the velvet surface. I then take this fabric, which has been printed, and sew it into a scarf or accessory.
Care
The scarves are luxurious feeling, and are very durable and travel well. Merely hang them over your jacket, or fold into your suitcase. Try to not crumple them, but if they should get wrinkled, place them in your dryer on the heat setting for 15-20 minutes. That should be enough to revive them! These soft scarves will continue to keep you warm and and beautiful for years to come. Please do not wash, DRY CLEAN only.
Styles Available
This year I have begun to hand dye a selection of velvet scarves, both in the smooth solid texture as well as the devore’ (burn-out) velvet. I am using a type of dye that requires neither additives, setting agents, nor steam heat to set it, and the residue is not harmful. This has meant that I do not need a specialized work/ventilation system to work with the dyes, and best of all the color ranges are exquisite!
I also continue to work with ready made devore’ velvet. This fabric comes in a wonderful array of patterns and colors, and I choose only the most beautiful to incorporate with my styles and designs.
I am constantly trying out new ideas, so please check back often to see what is current. I will post my schedule of events, and will also have a “sale” area for overflow and discontinued items. You can always contact me for more information.

I always enjoy commissions and special orders, such as wedding accessories, seasonal specialized corporate gifts, or a unique one of a kind gift item. So I look forward to collaborations with YOU!.....
